Dr Sumedha Amarasinghe was graduated in 2001 from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka obtaining her primary qualifications MBBS. Since then she has worked in Tertiary Teaching Hospitals and Rural Hospitals as well as in General practice before coming to Australia. She started working in Bundaberg base hospital prior enrolling general practice training. Work experience gained in a variety of specialties including general medicine, renal, rehabilitation, cardiology, pediatrics, surgery, emergency medicine, psychiatry and obstetrics and gynecology in Bundaberg base hospital enhanced the smooth transition to general practice. She holds the Australian Medical Board General Registration and was awarded the Fellowship of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners after successful completion of general practice training.

Sumedha is interested in managing and treating patients with common medical problems including chronic disease management in adults and children, mental health concerns, family planning, sexual and women’s health and providing travel advice.  She likes to work closely with patients and with their families to provide holistic care for the whole family. She enjoys training and teaching medical students and nurses. Being a senior Lecturer at School of Medicine , University of Queensland, she the undertakes the medical students for their General Practice Placement
